Troy Lother was named to the All-Tournament Team.
NORTHFIELD, VT - The Lake Forest College men’s hockey team dropped a pair of games at Norwich University’s Times Argus Invitational. The Foresters fell 3-2 to Manhattanville College on Thursday (December 30) and 6-2 to Elmira College on Friday (December 31) and are now 5-7-1 on the season. Manhattanville, the #2 team in the nation, also defeated host Norwich, the country’s third-ranked team, in the championship game. The hosts had defeated Elmira 3-2 in the semifinals.

After a scoreless first period on Thursday, Manhattanville netted the second stanza’s only goal at the 1:39 mark. Lake Forest junior Troy Lother (Beach Park, IL/Green Bay Gamblers) tied the score just 28 seconds into the third. Sophomore Greg Ihnken (Peoria, IL/Chicago Freeze) and senior Dave Williams (Thornhill, ON/Thornhill Rattlers) assisted on Lother’s third goal of the year. The Valiants regained the lead at 5:13 and extended the margin to two goals at 7:55. Junior Cory Wilson (Calgary, AB/Calgary Royals) pulled the Foresters back to within one with a power play goal with 1:25 remaining on the clock. His sixth score of the season was assisted by sophomore Tyler Canal (Thunder Bay, ON/Stratford Cullitons) and senior Robin Charest (Cabano, QC/Hebron Academy).

Senior Joel Cameron (Markham, ON/Milton Merchants) tallied 29 saves as Lake Forest out-shot Manhattanville 40-32 during the entire game and 32-19 after the opening period.

The Foresters also put more shots on goal (44-38) than Elmira in the consolation game.

The Soaring Eagles’ Jarrett Konkie scored at the opening period’s 5:35 mark and again on the power play at 13:07. Ihnken’s shorthanded goal at 15:19 was his second score of the year and assisted by Charest, but Konkie lit the lamp again for Elmira at 18:00 in the first and 9:57 in the second (shorthanded). Another second period goal by the Eagles at 17:55 and their sixth of the game at 5:31 in the third (power play) put the game out of reach. Charest converted a power play opportunity at the 16:12 mark in the third to close out the scoring. His seventh goal of the season was assisted by Canal and junior Bryan Lafevor (Ft. Wayne, IN/Chicago Freeze).

Lother was the lone Forester named to the All-Tournament Team.

The final 12 games on Lake Forest’s regular season schedule are all against fellow Northern Collegiate Hockey Association opponents, beginning with next weekend’s (January 7-8) series against St. Norbert College, the nation’s fourth-ranked program. The teams will face off at 7:00 Friday evening in De Pere, Wisconsin, and again the following night at 7:30 in Lake Forest.
