Lake Forest Falls Twice to St. Norbert to Close Out Regular Season
Team will travel to UW-River Falls for NCHA Quarterfinal

LAKE FOREST, Ill. - The Forester men’s hockey team dropped a pair of contests against St. Norbert College, the nation’s fourth-ranked team, over the weekend (February 9-10). Lake Forest fell 3-1 at St. Norbert on Friday and 5-2 at home on Saturday. The Foresters are now 3-19-3 overall and have completed their Northern Collegiate Hockey Association regular season schedule with a 0-11-3 record. The Green Knights are 20-3-2 overall and they tied for the NCHA title with a 10-3-1 mark in league play.

The Foresters scored first Friday night when senior Tyler Canal (Thunder Bay, Ont./Stratford Cullitons) lit the lamp at the 12:38 mark of the opening period. His eighth goal of the season was assisted by sophomore Mike Kneeland (Calgary, Alb./Calgary Royals). The home team tied the game just 48 seconds later and took the lead at 16:09 on a power play goal.

St. Norbert scored the only other goal of the game while shorthanded at 9:15 in the second period.

Forester sophomore goaltender Scott Campbell (Bloomfield, Ont./Elmira Sugar Kings) stopped 35 of 38 shots on goal, raising his save percentage on the year to .912.

Fellow sophomore goalie Brandon Kohuch (Windsor, Ont./Chatham Maroons) was between the pipes the next night and tallied 45 saves.

St. Norbert scored first at the 9:10 mark of the opening period. Lake Forest responded with a goal by Kneeland with 1:25 remaining in the period. He was assisted by Canal and senior Brian Lee (Calgary, Alb./Calgary Royals).

The visitors regained the lead with a power play goal at 14:22 in the second and added another with a man-advantage at 18:18.

Kneeland scored for the second time in the game and sixth of the season just 48 seconds into the third period. Lee and Canal assisted Kneeland once again. The Green Knights responded with an insurance goal just 66 seconds later and another at 14:16.

Lake Forest will be the eighth seed in the NCHA’s Peters Cup Playoffs and will travel to top-seeded UW-River Falls next weekend (February 16-17). The teams will face off in a best-of-two series Friday and Saturday night at 7:00 with a 20-minute mini-game to be played after Saturday’s contest, if necessary.
