LAKE FOREST, IL - The Forester men's hockey team hosted UW-Stevens Point Friday (February 1st) night but fell to the Pointers by a score of 5-3. The loss to the third-place team in the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association keeps Lake Forest in sixth place, meaning that the two teams could face each other again in the season-ending conference tournament.

Forester freshman forward Ryan Scapinello (Guelph, Ontario) started the scoring less than four minutes into the game. Junior forward Mike McKenna (Ottawa, Ontario) and freshman forward Derek Myronuk (Smithville, Ontario) each recorded assists on Scapinello's first career goal. After the visitors tied the score, junior forward Matt Bruni (Unionville, Ontario) took over sole possession of the team lead in goals with his 11th of the season. Freshman forward David Williams (Thornhill, Ontario) sophomore forward Bryan O'Connor (Calgary, Alberta) were each credited with an assist on the power play goal, the final score of the first period.

Lake Forest struck first in the second period at the 7:24 mark to take a 3-1 lead. Freshman forward Andrew Francone (Unionville, Ontario) scored his seventh goal of the season off passes from sophomore forward Adrian Wong (Richmond, British Columbia) and sophomore defenseman Chris Rook (Barrie, Ontario). Stevens Point pulled to within one goal with just less than five minutes to play in the period.

The final frame featured three scores by the visitors and none for the Foresters. The final goal was on an empty net with 47 seconds remaining to seal the victory.

Lake Forest (9-11-1, 4-7-0 NCHA) will host UW-Eau Claire (10-10-2, 5-5-1) Saturday (February 2nd) night at 7:30 PM. Eau Claire is just ahead of the Foresters in the league standings as the teams jockey for position before the conference tournament begins in two weeks (February 15th).
