EAU CLAIRE, WI - The Lake Forest College men's hockey team split a pair of road games this weekend (January 31-February 1) against Northern Collegiate Hockey Association opponents. The Foresters fell 5-3 at UW-Stevens Point on Friday and defeated UW-Eau Claire 6-5 on Saturday. The team is now 12-7-4 overall this season and 5-6-1 in NCHA games. Stevens Point raised its overall record to 12-9-1 and its NCHA mark to 7-4-0 on Friday. Eau Claire fell to 1-17-2 overall and 1-9-1 in the league.

After the Pointers' Adam Kostichka scored first at the 1:44 mark of Friday's second period, Forester freshman Cory Wilson (Calgary, Alberta/Calgary Royals) tied the game at 5:32. Three minutes later, Mike Brolsma put the home team back on top with a power play goal. Senior David Evans (Calgary, Alberta/Calgary Royals) evened the score again for Lake Forest at 13:40.

At the 1:15 mark of the third, Kostochka scored his second of the game to regain the lead for Stevens Point. The Foresters tied the score again at 8:12 with sophomore Ryan Scapinello's (Guelph, Ontario/Stratford Cullitons) second of the season. Jordan Blair scored the game winner for the Pointers art 16:53 and Kostichka completed the hat trick with an empty net goal with nine seconds remaining.

On Saturday, shorthanded goals by Rob Ouimette and Matt Gehr in the game's second minute gave Eau Claire the early lead. Evans took advantage of the same power play with his team-leading 18th goal of the season at 2:15. Phil Cherneski then scored at 6:04 to regain the Blugolds' two-goal advantage. Ten minutes later, sophomore Robin Charest (Cabano, Quebec/Coaticooh Jr. A) lit the lamp for the sixth time this year. Finally Chris Hunter of Eau Claire closed out the period's scoring at the 17:58 mark.

As bad as the opening period went for the Foresters, the second was even worse for their opponent. Senior Matt Bruni (Unionville, Ontario/Aurora Tigers) scored for the fourth time in 2002-03 at the 9:13 mark. After Wilson tied the game at 10:23, sophomore Bryan O'Connor (Calgary, Alberta/Calgary Canucks) gave the visitors their first lead with a power play goal at 19:34, his sixth of the season.

Eau Claire's Joe Byrd tied the score at five at the 3:40 mark of the third. The game winner came at the 13:53 mark off Wilson's stick. The goal was his third of the weekend and 12th of the year.

Sophomore Cody Brown (Calgary, Alberta/Calgary Canucks), who had 40 saves in Friday's loss, tallied 15 more in two periods of relief on Saturday to collect the victory. He is now 8-4-1 this season.

Lake Forest will close out the regular season against a pair of NCHA teams at home next weekend (February 7-8). Friday night's game will be against UW-Stout (6-17-0, 2-10-0 NCHA) and Saturday's opponent will be UW-River Falls (19-3-1, 10-1-1 NCHA). Both games will begin at 7:30 p.m.
