Junior Ryan Panet (Markham, ON/Wexford Raiders) led off the scoring 3:45 into the second period Friday with his first of two goals on the evening. Freshmen Cam Doull (Marwayne, AB/Lloydminster Blazers) and Tyler Canal (Thunder Bay, ON/Stratford Cullitons) were each credited with an assist on the power play goal. Junior Dave Williams (Thornhill, ON/Thornhill Rattlers) scored for the third time this season at the 11:55 mark off an assist from senior Bryan O’Connor (Calgary, AB/Calgary Canucks). Panet’s second of the game at 14:10 closed out the period’s scoring. Canal and freshman Jordan Kniaziew (Leamington, ON/Leamington Flyers) assisted on Panet’s 10th goal of the year.
Freshman Greg Ihnken (Peoria, IL/Chicago Freeze) tacked on an unassisted and shorthanded goal at the 11:58 mark of the final period to close out the scoring. It was his third goal of the year.
Junior goaltender Joel Cameron (Markham, ON/Milton Merchants) tallied 26 saves to record his third shutout of the year. Cameron stopped 27 of 29 shots on goal the next night against Superior and currently leads the nation with a .947 save percentage, He also ranks second in the country with a 1.61 goals against average and 11th with a winning percentage of .808 (10-2-1).
Superior’s Rob Whidden started the scoring on Saturday just 27 seconds into the contest and gave the Yellowjackets a 2-0 lead with his second goal of the game at the 7:29 mark of the second period. Freshman Matt Forsyth (Calgary, AB/Calgary Royals) scored his second goal of the season with 2:25 remaining in the second to pull the Foresters to within a single goal. Doull and Canal recorded the assists, their 13th and 16th of the year, respectively.
Lake Forest tied the score with 4:16 left in regulation on junior Ryan Scapinello’s (Guelph, ON/Stratford Cullitons) eighth goal of the year. Forsyth and sophomore Tyler Steen (Calgary, AB/Calgary Royals) each earned an assist.
UW-Stout (14-9-2, 5-7-2 NCHA) earned the league’s #5 seed for
the playoffs and will be Lake Forest’s first-round opponent. The
Foresters defeated the Blue Devils 3-1 and 4-1 during the regular season.
