SUPERIOR, WI - The Forester men's hockey team gave UW-Superior a scare Friday (February 15th) night when they tied the nation's 8th-ranked team (US College Hockey Online) 2-2. Saturday (February 16th) night, however, the Yellowjackets defeated Lake Forest 6-2, ending the visitors' hopes of advancing to the second round of the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association Tournament.

Superior jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first nine minutes of Saturday's game. Lake Forest freshman forward Bryan O'Connor (Calgary, Alberta) put the Foresters on the scoreboard with his 11th goal of the season, joining junior forward Matt Bruni (Unionville, Ontario) for the team-lead in goals. Bruni and sophomore Adrian Wong (Richmond, British Columbia) each recorded assists on the power play score and finished the season tied for the team lead in points with 21. Wong also led the squad with 14 assists. The home team added another first-period score and the players entered the locker rooms with Superior ahead 4-1.

Superior's fifth goal of the contest came on the power play at the 3:38 mark of the second period. With one second left in the period, Lake Forest scored its only other goal of the game when junior defenseman Matt VanHeest (South Lyon, MI) found the back of the net for the second time this season. Assisting on the goal were junior forward David Evans (Calgary, Alberta), his 13th of the year, and freshman forward Troy Muspratt (Calgary, Alberta) the first of his career.

The Yellowjackets tacked on one more goal in the final frame to close out the scoring.

Lake Forest's season ends with a 9-15-2 overall record. UW-Superior (18-5-4) advances to play host to UW-Stevens Point (17-8-2). The other semifinal series will include top seed St. Norbert College (22-3-2) hosting UW-River Falls (18-7-2).
