Lake Forest Drops 6-2 Decision to Nation’s Top-Ranked Team

LAKE FOREST, Ill. - The Forester men’s hockey team was defeated 6-2 by visiting St. Norbert College Saturday night (February 16). Lake Forest fell to 3-21-1 overall and 1-13-0 in Northern Collegiate Hockey Association play. St. Norbert, the top-ranked team in the nation, is now 21-1-4 overall and 10-0-4 in league games.

The Green Knights converted on their first power play opportunity of the game at the 3:25 mark of the opening period and took a 2-0 lead with another goal at 7:29. Lake Forest got on the scoreboard on senior Blake O’Keefe’s (Almonte, Ont./Gloucester Rangers) fourth score of the season at 10:37. He was assisted by sophomore Adam Love (Durham, Ont./Elmira Sugar Kings) and freshman Peter Pfeffer (Farmington Hills, Mich./Walpole Stars). St. Norbert regained its two-goal advantage at 15:54 and led 3-1 at the first intermission.

Forester junior goaltender Scott Campbell (Bloomfield, Ont./Elmira Sugar Kings), who finished the game with a career-high 54 saves, received the program’s annual Peter Taylor Award between the first and second periods. He now owns a .910 save percentage on the season.

Lake Forest pulled to within one on a power play goal by junior Matt Oke (St. Lambert, Que./Nepean Raiders) at the 2:18 mark of the second period. Pfeffer assisted on Oke’s first goal of the season. St. Norbert, however, scored again at 4:01 in the second and added a pair of insurance goals late in the third period to seal the victory.

It was the final career home game for O'Keefe and fellow senior Kevin Russette (Amherstburg, Ont./Leamington Flyers).

The Foresters and Green Knights will face off again twice next weekend (February 22-23) in the NCHA Peters Cup Quarterfinals. St. Norbert will host the series and both contests will begin at 7:00 p.m.
