RIVER FALLS, Wis. - The visiting Lake Forest College men’s hockey team was knocked out of the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association’s Peters Cup Playoffs by UW-River Falls over the weekend (February 16-17). The Falcons defeated the Foresters 4-1 Friday evening and 7-1 the following night to advance to the semifinal round. Lake Forest finished the season with a 3-21-3 record while River Falls, the third-ranked team in the nation, improved to 21-4-2.

The Foresters started the weekend off with a bang as senior Tyler Canal (Thunder Bay, Ont./Stratford Cullitons) scored his ninth goal of the year just 13 seconds into Friday’s game. He was assisted by sophomore Mike Kneeland (Calgary, Alb./Calgary Royals). River Falls, however, would tie the score on a power play goal at the 8:36 mark.

The home team took the lead with another power play goal just 50 seconds into the second period and scored again at 12:04. The Falcons tacked on a final insurance goal with 5:07 remaining in the contest.

Sophomore goaltender Scott Campbell (Bloomfield, Ont./Elmira Sugar Kings) tallied 45 saves in Friday’s contest and classmate Brandon Kohuch (Windsor, Ont./Chatham Maroons) matched the career-high he set against River Falls earlier in the year with 52 on Saturday.

River Falls scored three times in each of the first two periods Saturday and took a 7-0 lead with another score at 15:03 in the third. The Foresters finally got on the scoreboard 42 seconds later on Kneeland’s seventh score of the season. He was assisted by Canal and senior Brian Lee (Calgary, Alb./Calgary Royals).

Canal led the squad with 26 points on the season and finished his career with 127, the ninth-highest total in team history. He also ranks tied-for-eighth with 74 assists. Lee paced the squad with 10 goals.

The Foresters had reached the Peters Cup semifinals each of the last three seasons.
