SUPERIOR, Wis. - The Forester men's hockey team was defeated 4-3 at the University of Wisconsin-Superior Friday night (February 20) in game one of the teams' Northern Collegiate Hockey Association Peters Cup quarterfinal series. Lake Forest fell to 5-19-2 on the season while the Yellowjackets, ranked second in the nation, raised their record to 21-2-3.

Forester senior Mike Kneeland (Calgary, Alberta/Calgary Royals) scored the game's first two goals. He was assisted by freshmen Sean Farley (Park Ridge, Ill./Utica College) and Joel Gard (Orangeville, Ontario/Streetsville Derbys) at 4:49 and by Farley and senior Chris Wilson (Bloomfield Hills, Mich./Cornwall Colts) at 17:57. Kneeland leads Lake Forest with 11 goals on the season. Superior then got on the scoreboard on a shorthanded goal with nine second remaining in the opening period.

The Yellowjackets tied the game at the 8:08 mark of the second period. The visitors regained the lead at 10:51 when junior Justin Taylor (Sun Valley, Idaho/Walpole Stars) lit the lamp for the fourth time this year. He was assisted by classmate Adam Love (Durham, Ontario/Elmira Sugar Kings) and freshman Ethan Goldberg (Green Oaks, Ill./Chicago Mission). Superior tied the score again just 17 seconds later and the score was 3-3 at the second intermission.

Superior scored what turned out to be the game-winner just 21 seconds into the final period.

Lake Forest senior goaltender Brandon Kohuch (Windsor, Ontario/Chatham Maroons) finished the game with 37 saves, including the 2,000th of his career early in the third period.

The teams will be back out on the ice at 7:00 tomorrow night. A Lake Forest victory would force an additional 20-minute mini-game. A tie or Superior victory would send the league's regular season champion to the semifinals next Saturday (February 28).
