Foresters Lose Close One at Nation’s Top-Ranked Team
2-1 defeat to St. Norbert ends Lake Forest’s season

DE PERE, WI - The Lake Forest College men’s hockey team dropped a 2-1 decision at St. Norbert College Saturday (February 26) night in the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association Peters Cup semifinals. The Foresters finished the 2004-05 season with a 13-14-1 overall record and reached the league’s semifinals for the second straight year. St. Norbert, the top-ranked team in the nation, is 23-2-3 on the season and will host UW-Superior next Saturday (March 5) in the championship game.

The Green Knights scored the only goal of the opening period when they converted a power play opportunity at the 12:56 mark.

The Foresters tied the score at 16:01 in the second stanza on senior forward Ryan Panet’s (Markham, ON/Wexford Raiders) sixth goal of the season. Sophomore forward Tyler Canal (Thunder Bay, ON/Stratford Cullitons) and senior forward Robin Charest (Cabano, QC/Hebron Academy) were each credited with an assist. Canal led the team with 16 goals, 23 assists, and 39 points. Charest was second on the squad in all three categories with 33 points on 14 goals and 19 assists.

The home team took advantage of their second power play opportunity of the game at the 6:12 mark of the third period.

Lake Forest senior Joel Cameron (Markham, ON/Milton Merchants) kept the visitors in the game with a season-high 51 saves, including 39 in the first two periods. He finished his career as the program’s all-time leader with 1,933 career saves, a .919 save percentage, and a 2.82 goals against average.

In addition to Cameron, Panet, and Charest, the Foresters’ senior class also includes two-time Honorable Mention All-NCHA goaltender Cody Brown (Calgary, AB/Calgary Canucks), defensemen Eric Luka (Berwyn, IL/Fenwick H.S.) and Rob Nerland (Calgary, AB/Kimberly Dynamites), and forwards Andrew Francone (Unionville, ON/Milton Merchants), Dave Williams (Thornhill, ON/Thornhill Rattlers), and Ryan Scapinello (Guelph, ON/Stratford Cullitons).
