Holmes's Goal With 3:17 Remaining in Regulation Gives LF Win
Foresters pick up their third straight road victory

FRIDLEY, MN - Dan Holmes (Whitby, Ontario) broke a 5-5 tie with 3:17 to play in the final period to give the Lake Forest College men's hockey team a 6-5 victory at Bethel College on Saturday (January 6th).

It was Lake Forest's (8-4-2) second one-goal win in as many nights. On Friday (January 5th), the Foresters knocked off Augsburg College, 4-3 in overtime. Lake Forest has also won three consecutive contests overall, all of which has come on the road.

Bethel (4-9-0) fell for the second time this weekend. St. Norbert College beat Bethel, 5-3, on Friday.

Holmes's goal, assisted by Tom Dutton (Wadsworth, IL), halted a late comeback attempt by Bethel, who scored three straight goals in just over five minutes midway through the third period to tie the game at 5-5.

After Mike Marshall gave Bethel a 1-0 lead just 13 seconds into the game, Brad Thomas (Arlington Heights, IL) answered 40 seconds later to tie the score. David Evans's (Calgary, Alberta) sixth goal of the season gave LF their first lead at 2-1 at the 8:50 mark of the first period.

After Bethel knotted the score at 2-2 late in the first period, the Foresters rattled off three straight goals, two of which were scored in the second period, to open up a 5-2 lead at the 6:08 mark of the final frame. Lake Forest got goals from Bill Boyes (Bright's Grove, Ontario), Thomas, and Scott McClure (Calgary, Alberta) during their three-goal run.

Justin Howard (Burlington, Ontario) snared 12 saves in each of the three periods to secure the win, while Jeff Hall had 29 saves for Bethel, who out-shot Lake Forest, 42-35, for the game, including a 15-6 advantage in the third period when Lake Forest committed the game's last four penalties.

Lake Forest will play two home games this Friday and Saturday (January 12th and 13th) when they host Arizona State University's club team. It will be the Forester's first home action since November 25th.
