St. Norbert wins both games 5-3

Tyler Canal had a goal and two assists on the weekend.
DE PERE, WI - The Lake Forest College men's hockey team entered the weekend (January 9-10) ranked #4 in the nation but was swept by #2 St. Norbert College in a home-and-home series. The final score of both games was 5-3, dropping the Foresters' overall record to 11-2-1 and their Northern Collegiate Hockey Association mark to 2-2-0. St. Norbert is now 13-1-1 overall and 3-1-0 in the NCHA.

Friday night's game was played in Lake Forest and the home team scored first on an unassisted short-handed goal by freshman Tyler Canal (Thunder Bay, ON/Stratford Cullitons), his sixth of the season, at 3:10 in the first period. Sophomore Tyler Steen's (Calgary, AB/Calgary Royals) seventh score of the year came just 75 seconds later and made the score 2-0. He was assisted by junior Robin Charest (Cabano, QC/Hebron Academy) and sophomore Bill Fetherston (Aurora, ON/Plattsburgh St.).

The Foresters took a three-goal advantage at the 2:46 mark of the second period when Canal assisted on Fetherston's second goal of the year. St. Norbert finally got on the scoreboard at 13:54 and pulled to within a goal with 1:55 to play in the period.

The Green Knights took over the game in the third, scoring three times and tallying a dozen shots on goal to the Foresters' one.

Lake Forest struck first again Saturday night on St. Norbert's home ice. Junior Ryan Panet (Markham, ON/Wexford Raiders) scored his eighth of the season off an assist from Canal at 4:03 in the first. The home team, however, stormed back with three goals in the period and added another in the second.

Freshman Cam Doull (Marwayne, AB/Lloydminster Blazers) tied Panet and senior Bryan O'Connor (Calgary, AB/Calgary Canucks) for the team lead in goals with his eighth of the year just 48 seconds into the third period. Panet and freshman Bryan Lafevor (Ft. Wayne, IN/Chicago Freeze) were each credited with an assist. After St. Norbert scored again at 13:49, Forester junior captain Ryan Scapinello (Guelph, ON/Stratford Cullitons) scored the game's final goal and his sixth of the season with 3:04 to play. Charest and senior Chris Rook (Barrie, ON/Milton Merchants) recorded the assists.

While Lake Forest will almost surely drop in the national rankings, they will have the opportunity to climb them again when they host UW-River Falls, who was ranked #5 going into the weekend, Friday (January 16) night at 7:00. The Foresters will also face off against UW-Stout at home on Saturday (January 17) at 2:00 p.m.
