LAKE FOREST, Ill. - Lake Forest College men’s hockey player Mike Rubino (Woodbridge, Ontario/St. Michael’s Buzzers) was selected as the Forester Athlete of the Week on Thursday (January 14) for his performance in a pair of games the previous weekend (January 8-9).

Rubino, a freshman defenseman, scored his first career goal in the team’s 4-1 non-conference loss at Milwaukee School of Engineering Friday night.

The Foresters evened their Midwest Collegiate Hockey Association record at 4-4-0 with a 6-2 victory at Lawrence University Saturday evening. Rubino scored the game’s first goal, a power play score, at the 6:18 mark of the second period. He also earned an assist on the next goal at 8:53. Later, with Lake Forest leading 4-2, he helped put the game out of reach with a shorthanded, empty net goal with 6:32 to play in the contest.

Forester Athletes of the Week are selected by the Athletic Department on Thursdays. Rubino was also named MCHA Freshman of the Week on Monday.
