Foresters Fall by One at River Falls and Stout
Charest has a hand in four of team’s five goals

MENOMONIE, WI - The Lake Forest College men’s hockey team dropped a pair of one-goal decisions at fellow Northern Collegiate Hockey Association schools over the weekend (January 14-15). The Foresters fell 3-2 in overtime at UW-River Falls Friday night and 4-3 in regulation at UW-Stout Saturday afternoon. Lake Forest is now 5-11-1 overall and 1-5-0 in the NCHA.

After more than 38 minutes of scoreless hockey to begin Friday night’s contest, each team scored within a 19-second span, beginning with Forester senior Ryan Panet’s (Markham, ON/Wexford Raiders) first goal of the year at the 18:27 mark. He was assisted by classmate Andrew Francone (Unionville, ON/Milton Merchants) and freshman Brian Lee (Toronto, ON/Calgary Royals).

The Falcons took the lead at 3:11 in the third but Lake Forest senior Robin Charest (Cabano, QC/Hebron Academy) evened the score at 6:25. Sophomore Tyler Canal (Thunder Bay, ON/Stratford Cullitons) and junior Tyler Steen (Calgary, AB/Calgary Royals) each earned an assist on what turned out to be the final score of regulation.

River Falls’ overtime goal was scored at 2:06 in the extra period.

With 27 saves, senior goaltender Joel Cameron (Markham, ON/Milton Merchants) stopped exactly 90% of the Falcons’ shots on goal.

Stout started the scoring on Saturday just 70 seconds into the contest. The Foresters tied the game with 24 seconds remaining in the opening period on Steen’s fifth goal of the season. Charest and senior Eric Luka (Berwyn, IL/Fenwick H.S.) recorded the assists.

The home team converted a power play opportunity and regained the lead at the1:22 mark of the second stanza. Charest’s team-high ninth goal of the year also came on the power play at 4:45 and evened the score again. He was assisted by Canal and senior Dave Williams (Thornhill, ON/Thornhill Rattlers). Stout took the lead for good at 12:09 and added its fourth of the game just 11 seconds later.

The Foresters pulled to within a goal on another power play score at 14:53 in the third. Charest and Steen assisted junior Cory Wilson (Calgary, AB/Calgary Royals) on his seventh goal of the year.

Lake Forest will return home for two more NCHA games next weekend (January 21-22). The team will host UW-Stevens Point at 7:30 Friday night and UW-Eau Claire at the same time on Saturday.
