Cam Doull leads the team this season with nine goals.
LAKE FOREST, IL - The Forester men’s hockey team split a pair of Northern Collegiate Hockey Association home games over the weekend (January 16-17). UW-River Falls, who entered the weekend ranked fourth in the nation, defeated Lake Forest 3-0 Friday night but the Foresters, who were ranked #5, rebounded with a 3-1 win over UW-Stout on Saturday.

Lake Forest out-shot the visitors 24-20 Friday night but could not get the puck past River Falls goaltender Andy Scanlon. The Falcons scored once in the second period and twice in the third.

Neither team was able to score in the opening 20 minutes on Saturday, despite 33 Forester shots on goal in the period. Stout put just four shots on net.

Freshman Cam Doull (Marwayne, AB/Lloydminster Blazers) broke the scoreless tie at 4:07 in the second period with his team-leading ninth goal of the season. Classmate Tyler Canal (Thunder Bay, ON/Stratford CullitonsCalgary, AB/Kimberly Dynamites) and junior Rob Nerland (Calgary, AB/Kimberly Dynamites) were credited with assists. Canal’s helper was his team-high 12th of the year.

After Stout tied the game at the 13:02 mark of the second, junior Robin Charest (Cabano, QC/Hebron Academy) scored a power play goal at 17:41 to put the Foresters ahead for good. Senior Chris Rook (Barrie, ON/Milton Merchants) and sophomore Bill Fetherston (Aurora, ON/Plattsburgh St.) assisted on Charest’s seventh goal of the year.

The same trio that combined for the home team’s first goal of the game added an insurance score with 5:49 remaining in the contest. Doull and Nerland each recorded an assist on Canal’s seventh of the season. Canal now leads the 2003-04 squad with 19 points.

Junior goaltender Cody Brown (Calgary, AB/Calgary Canucks) stopped 27 of 28 Stout shots on goal in the game to raise his record on the year to 6-1-1 and his save percentage to .913.

Lake Forest will go on the road next weekend (January 23-24) for NCHA games at UW-Stevens Point (7:30 p.m. Friday) and UW-Eau Claire (7:00 p.m. Saturday). The Foresters will then host the same two opponents the following weekend (January 30-31).
