January 18th, 2002 Contact: Mike Wajerski, SID Foresters Fall to Nation's Fourth-Ranked Team
Senior forward Dan Holmes (Whitby, Ontario) got the Foresters on the board early when he redirected a shot from freshman forward Ryan Panet (Markham, Ontario) past Green Knight goaltender Ryan Gill at 5:40. But St. Norbert answered back just eight seconds later to tie the game. They took the lead less than a minute after that. After being down 3-1 after the first period, Lake Forest appeared to be creeping back into the game as freshman forward Andrew Francone (Unionville, Ontario) scored his fourth goal of the year on the power play to make it 3-2. Andy Trann beat Forester freshman goalieJoel Cameron (Markham, Ontario), however, to spark a string of Green Knight goals that would eventually seal the game. As the margin increased on the scoreboard, the second period included a more physical brand of hockey. Whistles in front of each net almost always included contact between several players. The third period played host to the culmination of each team's aggression. Of the game's 27 penalties, 19 of them occurred in the final 20 minutes. Lake Forest fell to 8-8-1 overall and 3-4-0 in the NCHA. This game marked the beginning of eight straight conference games for the Foresters. They play at St. Norbert tomorrow (January 19th) night, travel to UW-Superior and St. Scholastica next weekend (January 25-26th), play host to UW-Steven's Point and UW-Eau Claire the following weekend (February 1-2nd), and finally play at UW-Stout and UW-River Falls to finish the regular season.
