DULUTH, Minn. - The Forester men’s hockey team dropped a pair of Northern Collegiate Hockey Association contests over the weekend (January 19-20). Lake Forest fell 3-2 at UW-Superior, the nation’s seventh-ranked team, Friday evening and 7-2 Saturday night at the College of St. Scholastica. The Foresters are now 3-14-1 overall this season and 0-7-1 in league play.

Lake Forest sophomore Joe Papineau (Stoney Pointe, Ont./Kitchener Dutchmen) scored the first period’s only goal Friday night at the 15:42 mark. His second score of the year came on the power play and was assisted by classmate Chris Wilson (Bloomfield Hills, Mich./Cornwall Colts) and senior Greg Ihnken (Peoria, Ill./Chicago Freeze).

Superior scored at 6:20 and 13:19 in the second period to take the lead.

The Foresters tied the score at the 3:56 mark of the third period on sophomore Peter Morrison’s (Roseville, Minn./Roseville High School) second score of the season. He was assisted by Ihnken. The home team, however, regained the lead at 11:22 with the final goal of the contest.

Sophomore Scott Campbell (Bloomfield, Ont./Elmira Sugar Kings) tallied 38 saves in the contest.

Saturday’s game did not get off to a good start for the Foresters, who surrendered four goals in the opening period. St. Scholastica took a 5-0 lead early in the second before sophomore Mike Kneeland (Calgary, Alb./Calgary Royals) put the visitors on the scoreboard with a power play score at the 10:31 mark of the second. His second goal of the year was assisted by senior Tyler Canal (Thunder Bay, Ont./Stratford Cullitons) and junior Kevin Russette (Amherstburg, Ont./Leamington Flyers). The Saints scored 73 seconds later and took a 6-1 lead into the final period.

The home team scored its last goal of the night at 15:21 in the third. Forester freshman Justin Taylor (Guilfer, Conn./Walpole Stars) converted another power play opportunity for the visitors just 62 seconds later. Ihnken and Morrison assisted on Taylor’s second goal of the year.

Lake Forest will host Lawrence University in a non-conference game Tuesday (January 23) night at 7:30 before resuming league play at home next weekend (January 26-27) against UW-Stout and UW-River Falls.
