Foresters Suffer Tough Losses at Home to Superior and Scholastica

LAKE FOREST, IL – The Lake Forest College men’s hockey team dropped a pair of Northern Collegiate Hockey Association home games over the weekend (January 20-21). UW-Superior defeated the Foresters 3-2 Friday evening and the College of St. Scholastica prevailed 5-3 on Saturday night. Lake Forest fell to 9-10-0 overall on the year and 3-5-0 in NCHA play. Superior raised its record to 10-6-2 overall and 3-2-2 in the league and St. Scholastica is now 13-6-0 overall and 4-4-0 in the conference.

Sophomore Adam Tobias (Rockford, IL/Robert Morris University) opened the scoring on Friday with an unassisted shorthanded goal at the 12:45 mark of the second period. Superior tied the score at 17:03.

The home team regained the lead on a power play goal by senior Cory Wilson (Calgary, AB/Calgary Royals) at 6:05 in the third. Junior Graham Melbourne (Belleville, ON/Trenton Sting) assisted on Wilson’s fourth of the season. The Yellowjackets drew even again at 12:31 and their game-winner was a shorthanded goal at 17:26.

Freshman goaltender Brandon Kohuch (Winsdor, ON/Chatham Maroons) stopped 35 of 38 shots on goal in the contest and now owns a .923 save percentage on the season.

After St. Scholastica jumped out to a 2-0 lead after one period on Saturday, the Foresters evened the score on goals by Tobias at 1:51 and 4:19 of the second. Freshman Chris Wilson (Bloomfield Hills, MI/Cornwall Colts) assisted on the first and classmate Peter Morrison (Roseville, MN/Roseville High School) on the second, the eighth of the season for Tobias. The Saints, however, regained the lead with 4:56 to play in the period.

St. Scholastica scored to take a 4-2 lead at the 14:19 mark of the third period. Lake Forest pulled back to within one at the 17:13 mark on junior Brian Lee’s (Calgary, AB/Calgary Royals) fifth goal of the year. He was assisted by freshman Mike Kneeland (Calgary, AB/Calgary Royals), who leads the team with 27 points on the season. The Foresters pulled their goalie with 75 seconds left on the clock but were unable to score and surrendered an empty net goal with two seconds left.

Lake Forest will take to the road next weekend (January 27-28) with NCHA games at UW-Stout on Friday (7:30 p.m.) and UW-River Falls on Saturday (7:00 p.m.).
