DULUTH, MN - After a two-game sweep by St. Norbert College, the Lake Forest College men's hockey team was looking to get back on track this weekend against Northern Collegiate Hockey Association foes UW-Superior and the College of St. Scholastica. Despite opening the season with a sweep of both these teams, the Foresters earned a split this weekend, falling to Superior and defeating Scholastica.

On Friday (January 25th) night, UW-Superior, who is emerging as a potential at-large bid for the NCAA tournament, defeated Lake Forest 5-1 in Superior, Wisconsin. Sophomore defenseman Beau Llewellyn (Oro Station, Ontario) tied the game at one early in the second period with his first goal of the season, but the Yellowjackets took over from there. They scored two more times in both the second and third periods to finish off the Foresters.

Lake Forest freshman goaltender Cody Brown (Calgary, Alberta) played well in the loss, recording 46 saves. He stopped 17 alone in the second period.

On Saturday (January 26th) night, the Foresters bounced back with their first conference win since December 1st, beating the College of St. Scholastica 5-3. Freshman forward Freshman forward Troy Muspratt (Calgary, Alberta) evened the score at one when he found the back of the net at 18:12 of the first. The period ended at 1-1.

The Saints went up 3-1 early in the second period and things were not looking good for the Foresters. However, senior captain Dan Holmes (Whitby, Ontario) fired the puck past Scholastica goalie Cory Lonke on the power play with 54 seconds left to set up what would be a big third period.

Freshman forward Andrew Francone (Unionville, Ontario) continued Lake Forest's four-goal run when he scored at 3:37 to tie the game. Senior forward Andrew Jay (Charlottetown, P.E.I.) gave the Foresters the lead less than three minutes later and junior forward David Evans (Calgary, Alberta) added an insurance goal at 13:58.

Brown was the winning goaltender, earning his first collegiate victory between the pipes. He faced just four shots in the third, when the Forester defense tightened.

The team moved to 9-10-1 overall and 4-6-0 in the NCHA. Lake Forest is 3-5 since coming back from the holiday break. They host UW-Stevens Point and UW-Eau Claire next Friday (February 1st) and Saturday (February 2nd) nights. A sweep would put the Foresters in good position to host a playoff series. Lake Forest was swept by the Pointers and the Bluegolds in their last meetings.
