Foresters Defeated at Home by Nation's Second-Ranked Team

LAKE FOREST, Ill. - The Lake Forest College men's hockey team fell 7-1 to visiting College of St. Scholastica, the nation's second-ranked team, Friday night (January 30). The Foresters are now 5-15-1 overall this season and 0-10-0 in Northern Collegiate Hockey Association play. The Saints raised their overall record to 16-3-2 and league mark to 7-2-1.

After a scoreless opening period, St. Scholastica rattled off six consecutive goals in the second, beginning just 41 seconds into the period. The Saints scored again five minutes later and added a third goal at 8:34. The visitors took advantage of a power play opportunity at 10:25 and then scored twice in less than 30 seconds at 16:29 and 16:57.

The Foresters got on the scoreboard with 29 seconds remaining before the second intermission on junior Nick Ghidina's (Pekin, Ill./Wichita Falls Wildcats) first goal of the season. He was assisted by senior Matt Oke (St. Lambert, Quebec/Nepean Raiders) and freshman Joel Gard (Orangeville, Ontario/Streetsville Derbys).

St. Scholastica closed out the scoring with a power play goal with just 63 seconds to play in the contest.

Lake Forest will host UW-Superior, the league's first-place team and the third-ranked team in the country, tomorrow night at 7:30.
