Goals Late in First and Second Periods Doom Lake Forest against #3 Superior

LAKE FOREST, Ill. - The Forester men's hockey team was defeated 5-2 at home by the University of Wisconsin-Superior Saturday night (January 31). Lake Forest fell to 5-16-1 overall this season and 0-11-0 in Northern Collegiate Hockey Association contests. Superior, the nation's third-ranked team, is 17-2-3 overall and sits atop the league standings with a mark of 8-1-2.

Superior started the scoring with just one second remaining in the first period.

The Foresters responded with a power play goal 53 seconds into the second. It was junior Justin Taylor's (Sun Valley, Idaho/Walpole Stars) third of the season and he was assisted by seniors Chris Wilson (Bloomfield Hills, Mich./Cornwall Colts) and Mike Kneeland (Calgary, Alberta/Calgary Royals). The visitors, however, regained the lead at 14:36, scored again at 18:26, and, for the second time in the game, scored with just one second remaining in the period.

Lake Forest pulled to within two goals on a power play score by junior Adam Love (Durham, Ontario/Elmira Sugar Kings) at 10:29 in the third period. Kneeland assisted on Love's seventh goal of the season. It was Kneeland's team-high 21st point this season and the 92nd of his career. The Yellowjackets closed out the scoring at 12:36.

The Foresters will host two more league games next weekend (February 6-7). Lake Forest will face off against UW-Stout at 7:30 Friday night and will take on UW-River Falls at the same time on Saturday.
