Lake Forest Wins 4-1 at Marian College

FOND DU LAC, Wis. - The Forester men’s hockey team traveled to Marian College on Saturday (January 6) and came away with a 4-1 victory. Lake Forest raised its record on the season to 3-10-1 while the Sabres fell to 4-7-2.

Marian actually scored the game’s first goal at the 13:17 mark of the opening period. The Foresters tied the game on a power play goal by senior Brian Lee (Calgary, Alb./Calgary Royals) with 1:11 remaining in the period. His team-high seventh score of the season was assisted by seniors Tyler Canal (Thunder Bay, Ont./Stratford Cullitons) and Greg Ihnken (Peoria, Ill./Chicago Freeze).

Freshman Will Stoner (Kenosha, Wis./CD Selects) scored what turned out to be the game winning goal at the 11:50 mark of the second stanza. Classmates Justin Taylor (Guilfer, Conn./Walpole Stars) and Adam Love (Durham, Ont./Elmira Sugar Kings) assisted on Stoner’s first career score. Sophomore Peter Morrison (Roseville, Minn./Roseville High School) converted a Lake Forest power play opportunity with 66 seconds to play in the period. Morrison’s first goal of the year was assisted by Ihnken and sophomore Chris Wilson (Bloomfield Hills, Mich./Cornwall Colts).

The final Forester tally came just 23 seconds into the third period when Canal lit the lamp for the fourth time this season. It was the second unassisted score of the year for the team’s leader in points.

Sophomore Scott Campbell (Bloomfield, Ont./Elmira Sugar Kings) recorded 26 saves in the contest and raised his save percentage on the season to .925.

Lake Forest will be on the road again next weekend (January 12-13). The Foresters will play at Bethel University Friday night at 7:00 and at Hamline University at the same time on Saturday.
