Fritz Named NCHA Coach of the Year, Cameron First Team All-NCHA
Charest and Rook also earn Honorable Mention All-NCHA honors

LAKE FOREST, IL - The Northern Collegiate Hockey Association announced its yearly award winners Monday (March 1) and Lake Forest College was well represented on the list. The Foresters, who are currently 18-5-4 overall and preparing to face league champion St. Norbert College in the NCHA Peters Cup semifinals on Friday (March 5), finished the regular season with a 7-5-2 record in conference play and placed fourth in the NCHA standings.

In the team’s best season since joining the NCHA in 1992, the league’s coaches selected Lake Forest’s Tony Fritz as their Coach of the Year. It marked the first such award for Fritz, who is in his 26th year at the helm of the school’s men’s hockey program and reached 300 career victories on January 31.

Junior Joel Cameron (Markham, ON/Milton Merchants) was one of two goaltenders to be named First Team All-NCHA. Cameron currently leads the nation with a .946 save percentage and is ranked third with a 1.65 goals against average and 10th with a winning percentage of .800 (11-2-2). He led the league’s goalies with a .953 save percentage and 1.49 goals against average in conference play.

Junior forward Robin Charest (Cabano, QC/Hebron Academy) was one of two Foresters to be named Honorable Mention All-NCHA. Charest ranks third on the team in goals (13), fourth in assists (13), and second in points (26) in the squad’s 27 contests this season and has scored three game winners. He was also listed among the league leaders with 10 points and seven goals in 14 NCHA games.

Senior defenseman Chris Rook (Barrie, ON/Milton Merchants) also earned Honorable Mention All-NCHA honors. The assistant team captain helped anchor a defense that tied for first in the league with just 34 goals allowed in 14 NCHA contests. He also leads the team’s defensemen with 12 assists and 14 points on the season. After leading the entire squad in plus/minus rating each of the last two seasons, he is tied for first this year at +19.
