Foresters Finally Knocked Off by Nation’s Top-Ranked Team
St. Norbert defeats Foresters 3-2 in NCHA semifinal

Cam Doull's short-handed goal kept Lake Forest in the game.
GREEN BAY, WI - The Lake Forest College men’s hockey team fell 3-2 at St. Norbert College in the NCHA Peters Cup semifinals on Friday (March 5). St. Norbert was the top seed in the tournament and ranked #1 in the nation. The Foresters’ season ends with an 18-6-4 overall record, the team’s best mark in 13 years.

St. Norbert leads the country in converting power plays and needed just 16 seconds with a man advantage to score the game’s first goal at 3:06 in the opening period. The Foresters responded just 22 seconds later, however, to tie the score. Junior Robin Charest (Cabano, QC/Hebron Academy) netted his 14th goal of the season to tie for the team lead and was assisted by junior Ryan Scapinello (Guelph, ON/Stratford Cullitons) and sophomore Tyler Steen (Calgary, AB/Calgary Royals). The Green Knights regained the lead later in the period (11:12) on their second power play opportunity of the game.

The home team went ahead by two with its only even-strength goal of the game at the 5:15 mark of the second period.

The outcome of the game appeared to be determined when a penalty was called on the Foresters with just 4:22 remaining in the third. However, a short-handed goal by freshman Cam Doull (Marwayne, AB/Lloydminster Blazers) pulled the visitors to within a score with 3:24 left. Freshman Tyler Canal (Thunder Bay, ON/Stratford Cullitons) and sophomore Bill Fetherston (Aurora, ON/Plattsburgh St. University) assisted on Doull’s 11th goal of the year. It was Canal’s team-high 17th assist and 31st point.

Lake Forest pulled junior goaltender Joel Cameron (Markham, ON/Milton Merchants) with 49 seconds remaining but were unable to tie the score. Cameron finished the game with 32 saves and his season with a .944 save percentage, the best mark in the nation.

The Foresters’ trip to the semifinals was their first since joining the league in 1992. The team finished fourth in the regular season league standings, also a program-best.
