Lake Forest Struggles on First Road Trip of the Season
Team loses at UW-Eau Claire and UW-Stevens Point

LAKE FOREST, IL - After sweeping two NCHA opponents for the first time ever on an opening weekend, the Lake Forest Men's hockey team was swept by two new opponents - UW-Eau Claire and UW-Stevens Point - this weekend.

On Friday (November 9th) night, the Foresters fell to the Blugolds of UW-Eau Claire 3-0. Lake Forest has not beaten Eau Claire on the road since the 1994-95 season.

Eau Claire goalie Scott Sutton made several key saves to hand Lake Forest their first loss of the year and keep the Blugolds in line for their fourth and fifth conference points. Eau Claire led 1-0 after the first period after a goal by Kusma Kuratin. They scored twice in the second period to make it 3-0. There was no scoring in the third.

"We had chances to score," said head coach Tony Fritz.  "We just did not make the most of our scoring opportunities."

Freshman goaltender Joel Cameron (Markham, Ontario) continued his great play, despite the loss. He made 33 saves on 36 shots.

On Saturday (November 10th) night, Lake Forest was defeated 5-1 by the Pointers from UW-Stevens Point. The home team got on the scoreboard midway through the first period when Randy Enders beat Cameron for his first goal of the season. Lake Forest sophomore forward Bryan O'Connor (Calgary, Alberta) evened the score at 3:38 of the second. Forester sophomore forward Rob Bilcox (Calgary, Alberta) fed O'Connor the pass. Stevens Point, though, went on to score four unanswered goals, including one on a power play and one short-handed. They led 2-1 after two periods, but broke the game open in the third.

The loss puts the Foresters at 2-2-0 on the year. They have four conference points and are tied for fourth place in the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association. The team is averaging 2.5 goals per game and three goals against. They will play at Gustavus Adolphus College next Friday night (November 16th) and at St. Olaf College on Saturday (November 17th).
