COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. - The Lake Forest College men’s hockey team split a pair of games at schools in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference over the weekend (November 9-10). The Foresters won 5-4 at Concordia College and fell 4-1 at St. John’s University, giving the team a 1-5-0 overall record on the season. Concordia fell to 1-2-0 and St. John’s raised its mark to 2-1-0.

Lake Forest led 2-0 after Friday night’s opening period. Sophomore Adam Love (Durham, Ont./Elmira Sugar Kings) started the scoring just 40 seconds into the period with junior Matt Oke (St. Lambert, Que./Nepean Raiders) earning the assist. Junior Chris Jackson (Acworth, Ga./Springfield Spirit) then lit the lamp with only five seconds left before the first intermission. Jackson’s first career goal was assisted by senior Blake O’Keefe (Almonte, Ont./Gloucester Rangers) and freshman Peter Pfeffer (Farmington Hills, Mich./Walpole Stars).

After the Cobbers scored with 5:50 to play in the second period, Forester junior Mike Kneeland (Calgary, Alb./Calgary Royals) answered just 50 seconds later off assists by junior Chris Wilson (Bloomfield Hills, Mich./Cornwall Colts) and sophomore Justin Taylor (Sun Valley, Idaho/Walpole Stars). O’Keefe assisted Love with 3:20 to play in the period and the visitors led 4-1 going into the third.

Kneeland scored his team-high fourth goal of the season less than two minutes into the final stanza. He was assisted by junior Joe Papineau (Stoney Pointe, Ont./Kitchener Dutchmen). The Foresters then hung on for the one-goal win as Concordia rallied for scores at 4:15, 12:00, and 15:12.

Junior Scott Campbell (Bloomfield, Ont./Elmira Sugar Kings) tallied 42 saves to earn the win. Classmate Brandon Kohuch (Windsor, Ont./Chatham Maroons) was between the pipes on Saturday and stopped 52 of 56 St. John’s shots on goal.

All five goals in the game at St. John’s were scored on the power play. The Johnnies led 2-0 going into the third after scoring two-and-a-half minutes into the game and with 50 seconds left in the second period.

The home team made it 3-0 at 5:23 in the third before Love finally put the Foresters on the scoreboard at 7:22. O’Keefe and Pfeffer assisted on Love’s third goal of the weekend and season. St. John’s tacked on an additional goal at 14:11 to close out the scoring.

Lake Forest will begin Northern Collegiate Hockey Association play next weekend (November 16-17). The Foresters will travel to UW-Eau Claire for a 7:00 p.m. game on Friday and to UW-Stevens Point for a 7:30 contest Saturday night.
