Foresters Fall Twice on the Road in Minnesota
Team defeated at St. Mary’s and St. Thomas

St. Paul, Minn. – The Lake Forest College men’s hockey team dropped a pair of road games over the weekend (November 10-11), falling 4-2 at St. Mary’s University Friday evening and 4-1 at the University of St. Thomas the next night. The Foresters are now 2-4-0 on the season. St. Mary’s raised their record to 1-2-0 and St. Thomas is 2-2-0.

St. Mary’s power play goal at 10:13 was the only score of Friday’s opening period.

Lake Forest tied the game on junior Adam Tobias’ (Rockford, Ill./Robert Morris University) second score of the season just 85 seconds in to the second stanza. He was assisted by sophomore Chris Wilson (Bloomfield Hills, Mich./Cornwall Colts). The home team regained the lead at the 10:26 mark and entered the third period with a 2-1 advantage.

The Cardinals doubled their lead just 22 seconds in to the final period. The Foresters cut the margin to one on sophomore Matt Oke’s (St. Lambert, Que./Nepean Raiders) first career goal at 13:48. He was assisted by Tobias and sophomore Peter Morrison (Roseville, Minn./Roseville High School). The home team put the game away with a final goal at 18:54.

Sophomore Brandon Kohuch (Windsor, Ont./Chatham Maroons) recorded 41 saves in the contest, 91.1 percent of the Cardinals’ shots on goal. Classmate Scott Campbell (Bloomfield, Ont./Elmira Sugar Kings) also stopped more than 90 percent (38 of 42) of St. Thomas’ shots on goal on Saturday and now owns a .930 save percentage on the season.

After a scoreless opening period, the Tommies scored four times in the second.

The Foresters’ only goal of the game was scored by freshman Chris Thiess (Naperville, Ill./Kingston Voyageurs) at the 11:16 mark of the third. Sophomore Matt Schoepflin (Arvada, Colo./Culver Military Academy) assisted on the second goal of the season for Thiess.

Lake Forest will begin Northern Collegiate Hockey Association play next weekend (November 17-18). The Foresters will host the College of St. Scholastica Friday night and UW-Superior on Saturday. Both games will begin at 7:30 p.m.
