Foresters Open Season with Victory at St. Scholastica
Evans and Wilson each score twice
  

David Evans scored twice at Scholastica Friday night.
DULUTH, MN - The Lake Forest College men's hockey team began it 2002-2003 season Friday (November 1) night with a 5-3 victory at the College of St. Scholastica. It marked the second straight year that the Foresters have opened with a win over the Saints in Northern Collegiate Hockey Association play.

Freshman forward Cory Wilson (Calgary, Alberta) scored his first career goal just 59 seconds into the game to put the Foresters ahead. Junior forward Adrian Wong (Richmond, British Columbia/Fernee Ghostwriters), who led the team with 14 assists last season, got his first on Wilson's score.

Senior David Evans (Calgary, Alberta/Calgary Royals) scored at the 8:40 mark to increase the lead to two. Sophomore forward Andrew Francone (Unionville, Ontario/Milton Merchants) and junior forward Bryan O'Connor (Calgary, Alberta/Calgary Canucks) collected the assists. Francone scored his first goal of the year to close out the opening period scoring with 2:02 to play. Sophomore forward Ryan Panet (Markham, Ontario/Wexford Raiders) and sophomore defenseman Rob Nerland (Calgary, Alberta/Kimberly Dynamites) were each awarded an assist.

The Foresters took a 4-0 lead in the second period on the second power play score of the night for Evans.

Scholastica finally got past sophomore goalie Cody Brown (Calgary, Alberta/Calgary Canucks), who tallied 41 saves in the game, in the third period. After the Saints cut the lead to 4-2, Wilson connected for the second time to put Lake Forest ahead by three with less than two minutes to play. Wong and sophomore forward Troy Muspratt (Calgary, Alberta/Calgary Canucks) assisted on the goal. Scholastica rebounded less than 30 seconds later with the game's final goal.

The Foresters will play at UW-Superior Saturday (November 2) night against the defending national champion Yellowjackets. Superior (1-1-0, 0-1-0 NCHA) and Lake Forest played four times last season, with each team winning at home during the regular season and Superior collected a win and a tie at home in the league playoffs.
