Lake Forest Falls at St. Scholastica and Superior
Foresters open NCHA play with pair of losses

Three of Tyler Canal's four goals this year have been shorthanded.
SUPERIOR, WI – The Forester men’s hockey team suffered a pair of defeats on the opening weekend (November 18-19) of Northern Collegiate Hockey Association play. Lake Forest Fell 3-2 at the College of St. Scholastica Friday night and 4-1 at UW-Superior on Saturday. The Foresters are now 3-5-0 overall this season.

St. Scholastica took the early lead with a goal just 69 seconds into the contest. It was the only score of the opening period.

The home team struck again with a power play goal just 16 seconds into the second stanza and extended the lead to three goals with a shorthanded score at 2:01. Junior Greg Ihnken (Peoria, IL/Chicago Freeze) finally put the Foresters on the scoreboard at 3:04. Sophomore Adam Tobias (Rockford, IL/Robert Morris University) assisted on Ihnken’s second goal of the season. The visitors pulled to within one on junior Tyler Canal’s (Thunder Bay, ON/Stratford Cullitons) shorthanded goal at 8:28. Fellow junior Brian Lee (Toronto, ON/Calgary Royals) assisted on Canal’s fourth overall and third shorthanded goal of the year.

Lake Forest was unable to tie the score, despite pulling freshman goaltender Brandon Kohuch (Winsdor, ON/Chatham Maroons) for the final 58 seconds of the contest. Kohuch finished the game with a season-high 42 saves and has stopped 93% of opponents’ shots on goal this season.

The Foresters fell behind early again the following night. Superior scored first period goals at 3:42 and 8:16 before freshman Peter Morrison (Roseville, MN/Roseville High School) lit the lamp for the visitors at 18:31. Freshman Mike Kneeland (Calgary, AB/Calgary Royals) and sophomore Kevin Russette (Amerstburg, ON/Leamington Flyers) assisted on Morrison’s third goal of the season.

The Yellowjackets extended the lead with a goal at 8:53 in the second and another at 5:16 in the third.

Forester freshman goaltender Scott Campbell (Bloomfield, ON/Elmira Sugar Kings) stopped 39 of 43 shots on goal in the game and owns a .913 save percentage for the year.

Lake Forest will play a non-conference game at Lawrence University Tuesday (November 22) night at 7:30 before resuming its league schedule on the road next weekend (November 25-26). The Foresters will play at UW-Eau Claire at 7:00 Friday night and at UW-Stevens Point at the same time on Saturday.
