Lake Forest Falls to Gustavus Adolphus, Ties St. Olaf at Home
|
A Gustavus Adolphus power play goal in the first period and a shorthanded score at the 7:57 mark of the second gave the visitors a 2-0 lead on Friday. Lake Forest sophomore Tyler Canal (Thunder Bay, ON/Stratford Cullitons) scored his second shorthanded goal of the season and the fourth of his young career at the 11:15 mark of the second to pull the home team to within one. The Gusties responded just 85 seconds later to regain its two-goal advantage.
The visitors’ lead reached three scores when they converted a power play opportunity midway through the third period. The game’s final tally came at 15:14 when senior defenseman Eric Luka (Berwyn, IL/Fenwick H.S.) lit the lamp for the first time in his Lake Forest career. Sophomore Greg Ihnken (Peoria, IL/Chicago Freeze) earned the assist.
A shorthanded goal by St. Olaf at the 5:21 mark of Saturday’s second period put the Foresters in the hole again. Canal finally tied the score midway through the third period with the Foresters on the power play. Juniors Troy Lother (Beach Park, IL/Green Bay Gamblers) and Bryan Lafevor (Ft. Wayne, IN/Chicago Freeze) were each credited with an assist on Canal’s team-high seventh goal of the season.
Senior Cody Brown (Calgary, AB/Calgary Canucks) recorded 26 saves to earn the tie. He is now 1-1-1 on the year with a 2.81 goals against average and .909 save percentage.
The Foresters will play a pair of non-conference games next weekend (November 27-28). The team will travel to St. Norbert College on Saturday night for a 7:00 face-off and will host Marian College at 2:00 Sunday afternoon.
