Foresters Start Season With 4-1 Victory over St. Scholastica
Newcomers make their presence felt right away

LAKE FOREST, IL - The Lake Forest men's hockey team started the season off on the right foot with a 4-1 victory over the College of St. Scholastica Friday (November 2nd) night at Alumni Memorial Arena.  Head coach Tony Fritz kicked off his 24th season behind the Lake Forest bench with his 264th career victory.

Freshman Bryan O'Connor (Calgary, Alberta) scored two goals to lead the Foresters to the win. Freshman David Williams (Thornhill, Ontario) and sophomore Robert Bilcox (Calgary, Alberta) each had two assists in their first game with the team.

After a scoreless first period, Andrew Jay (Charlottetown, P.E.I.), one of just two seniors on the team, beat Saint goaltender Jason Nordby at 2:39 of the second. St. Scholastica evened the score when Rob Kehr fired a shot from the slot on the power play. Senior captain Dan Holmes (Whitby, Ontario) gave Lake Forest the lead for good when he scored with just under two minutes remaining in the period.

O'Connor's pair of third period goals helped put the game out of reach.

Forester freshman goaltender Joel Cameron (Markham, Ontario) stopped 20 of 21 shots on goal, including all eleven he saw in the closing period.

Although it marked their fifth season-opening victory in six years, the win on Friday gave the Foresters a victory in their first conference game of the season for only the second time since they began playing in the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association in 1992-93. They'll attempt to make it two NCHA victories in a row to start the year for the first time ever when they host UW-Superior Saturday (November 3rd) evening at 7:30 pm.
