Foresters and Green Knights Sweep Marian Hockey Showcase

FON DU LAC, WI - The Forester men's hockey team extended its season-opening unbeaten streak to nine games with two more victories over the weekend (November 28-29). Lake Forest participated in the Marian College Hockey Showcase and began by defeating the hosts 3-1 Friday night. The Foresters also knocked off Lawrence University 9-2 on Saturday to raise their record on the season to 8-0-1. 

Freshman Jordan Kniaziew (Leamington, Ontario/Leamington Flyers) started the scoring Friday night at the 11:47 mark of the first period with his second goal of the season. Junior Ryan Panet (Markham, Ontario/Wexford Raiders) assisted on the power play goal. After Marian's Ryan Stattner tied the score five-and-a-half minutes later, Forester freshman Cam Doull (Marwayne, Alberta/Lloydminster Blazers) gave the visitors the lead for good with just 1:45 remaining in the period. Sophomore Tyler Steen (Calgary, Alberta/Calgary Royals) and junior Robin Charest (Cabano, Quebec/Hebron Academy) were each credited with an assist.

Charest scored an insurance goal at the 17:44 mark of the second period off a pass from freshman Bryan Lafevor (Ft. Wayne, IN/Chicago Freeze).

Junior Joel Cameron (Markham, Ontario/Milton Merchants) tallied 25 saves, including 13 in the final 20 minutes, to raise his record on the year to 5-0-0 and his save percentage to .938.

Charest started the scoring Saturday with his fifth goal of the year at the 4:16 mark of the first period. He leads the Foresters with eight assists and 13 points so far this season. Panet, junior Ryan Scapinello (Guelph, Ontario/Stratford Cullitons), and senior Bryan O'Connor (Calgary, Alberta/Calgary Canucks) also scored goals in the period, which ended with the Foresters leading 4-1.

Scapinello and O'Connor scored their fourth and fifth goals of the season, respectively, and Doull added his team-high sixth in the second period.

Lawrence scored its second goal of the game early in the third period. Panet scored his fourth goal of the year and freshman Matt Forsyth (Calgary, Alberta/Calgary Royals) added the first of his career to close out the scoring. Sophomore Shaun Doetzel (Macklin, Saskatchewan/Bonnyville Pontiacs) assisted on each of the third period goals and tied a school record with four helpers in the game. They were the first four points of his career.

Junior Cody Brown (Calgary, Alberta/Calgary Canucks) saved 18 of Lawrence's 20 shots on goal and is now 3-0-1 on the year with a .922 save percentage.

The Foresters will begin NCHA play next weekend (December 5-6). The team will play at UW-Superior Friday night and at the College of St. Scholastica on Saturday.
