Lake Forest Vaults to Top of NCHA With 5-3 Win Over UW-Superior
Foresters 2-0-0 in league for first time ever

LAKE FOREST, IL - Lake Forest College men's hockey continued to amaze critics Saturday night when they beat perennial conference giant UW-Superior in the Alumni Memorial Arena. The Foresters held off the Yellowjackets 5-3 in front of 450 vocal fans.

Freshman goaltender Joel Cameron (Markham, Ontario) played like an experienced veteran as he stopped 46 shots.  He rejected all 21 shots that UW-Superior fired at him in the second period, including two point-blank opportunities and a break away. "Cameron won that game in the second period," said head coach Tony Fritz after the win.

UW-Superior led 2-1 after the first period, but Lake Forest tied the game in the second, setting the stage for a wild third.

Sophomore forward Robert Bilcox (Calgary, Alberta) scored his first goal of the year to put the Foresters ahead at 3:12 of the third. Freshman forward Ryan Panet (Markham, Ontario) knocked in the eventual game winner on a pass from sophomore defenseman Beau Llewellyn (Oro Station, Ontario) on the power play midway through the period.

UW-Superior capitalized on a late Forester penalty when Ryan Kalbrenner beat Cameron after an east-west pass. That goal came at 18:14. The Yellowjackets made things interesting with ten seconds left in regulation time.  A UW-Superior player batted the puck into the goal during a scramble near the goal mouth, causing the goal judge to turn on the red light.  Referee Jay Jacobs immediately gave the "wash out" motion to nullify the goal.

Junior forward Matt Bruni (Unionville, Ontario) broke away with the puck after the face off outside the Forester zone and scored on an empty UW-Superior net to seal the win.

Lake Forest College improved to 2-0-0 on the season, completing the first sweep on a conference-opening weekend ever by a Forester team.  They sit alone in first place in the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association with four points.  The Foresters travel to UW-Eau Claire Friday (November 9th) night and play at UW-Stevens Point Saturday (November 10th) evening.
