ST. CLOUD, MN - The Forester men’s hockey team dropped back-to-back one-goal decisions in Minnesota over the weekend (November 4-5). Lake Forest fell 5-4 at Augsburg College Friday night and 3-2 at St. John’s University, the nation’s fifth-ranked team, the following afternoon. The Foresters are now 1-3-0 on the season.

Lake Forest jumped out to the early lead at Augsburg on a shorthanded goal by junior Tyler Canal (Thunder Bay, ON/Stratford Cullitons) at the 9:19 mark of the opening period. Senior Tyler Steen (Calgary, AB/Calgary Royals) assisted on Canal’s third score of the year. The home team scored on the power play just 71 seconds later and took the lead on an even-strength goal at 15:03.

Forester junior Brian Lee (Toronto, ON/Calgary Royals) tied the score at the 5:54 mark of the second stanza and the visitors regained the lead at 13:06 when sophomore Andrew Ferrier (Stratford, PEI/ Truro Bearcats) lit the lamp. Sophomore Adam Tobias (Rockford, IL/Robert Morris University) and junior Matt Forsyth (Calgary, AB/Calgary Royals) assisted Lee and junior Greg Ihnken (Peoria, IL/Chicago Freeze) had the helper on Ferrier’s first of the season. Augsburg tied the score at 14:23 and took the lead for good on a power play goal with 1:21 remaining in the period.

The home team extended its advantage to two goals just 1:46 into the final period. Lee found the back of the net again with a shorthanded goal with just 49 seconds left in the contest. Freshmen Matt Oke (St. Lambert, QE/Nepean Raiders) and Mike Kneeland (Calgary, AB/Calgary Royals) assisted on Lee’s seconds score of the game and season.

The Foresters scored first again at St. John’s when Tobias lit the lamp at 13:23 of the opening period. Steen and Canal were each credited with an assist.

After the Johnnies tied the score at 2:50 in the second, Tobias put the visitors back on top with his second goal of the game and season at 9:09. Steen and sophomore Kevin Russette (Amerstburg, ON/Leamington Flyers) assisted on the power play score. The home team, however, converted a power play opportunity of its own with just 32 seconds left in the period to draw even once again.

St. John’s scored the game winner at the 6:27 mark of the third period.

Lake Forest freshman goaltender Scott Campbell (Bloomfield, ON/Elmira Sugar Kings) stopped 31 of 34 (.912) shots on goal in the game but suffered the loss.

The Foresters will host the University of St. Thomas Friday (November 11) night at 7:30 and St. Mary’s University the following afternoon at 2:30.
