ST. PAUL, MN - The Lake Forest College men’s hockey team split a series in Minnesota over the weekend (November 5-6), defeating St. Mary’s University 5-3 Friday night and falling to the University of St. Thomas 6-2 on Saturday. The Foresters are now 2-1 on the season.

The visitors’ first goal of Friday’s victory was the first in the career of freshman Brian Lee (Toronto, ON/Calgary Royals). Senior Ryan Scapinello (Guelph, ON/Stratford Cullitons) earned the assist at the 11:06 mark in the opening period. Junior Tyler Steen (Calgary, AB/Calgary Royals) assisted on senior Robin Charest’s (Cabano, QC/Hebron Academy) third goal of the year at 17:18 to give the Foresters a 2-0 lead. It was Charest's first career shorthanded goal and the team's first of the year.

St. Mary’s put just five shots on goal in the second period, but two of them ended up in the net and the score was tied heading into the third.

The home team took its only lead of the game at 3:51 in the third before another Lake Forest freshman, Blake O’Keefe (Almonte, ON/Gloucester Rangers), scored his first career goal to tie the score at 6:12. Seniors Andrew Francone (Unionville, ON/Milton Merchants) and Ryan Panet (Markham, ON/Wexford Raiders) each earned an assist. Senior Dave Williams (Thornhill, ON/Thornhill Rattlers) scored the game winner at 8:11 and then added an insurance goal with 1:36 remaining. Sophomore Tyler Canal (Thunder Bay, ON/Stratford Cullitons) recorded the assist on Williams’s first score and both Panet and senior Eric Luka (Berwyn, IL/Fenwick H.S.) helped out on the second.

Senior Joel Cameron (Markham, ON/Milton Merchants) recorded 27 saves, including 15 in the final period, to raise his record on the year to 2-0-0.

The Foresters got off to a rough start on Saturday and never could recover. St. Thomas scored just 37 seconds into the contest and at the 6:11 and 16:58 marks of the opening period. Williams finally put the visitors on the scoreboard with his third of the season at 17:41. Panet and Canal earned assists and share the team lead with three so far this season.

The home team scored two more goals in the second and added its sixth of the game at the 6:56 mark in the third. Steen’s first goal of 2004 came with 2:58 remaining and closed out the scoring. Junior Bryan Lafevor (Ft. Wayne, IN/Chicago Freeze) earned the assist.
