LAKE FOREST, IL - The Forester men's hockey team continued its early season success over the weekend (November 7-8) by defeating the University of St. Thomas 4-3 and recording a 5-5 tie against St. Mary's University. Lake Forest is now 2-0-1 on the year. St. Thomas, who entered the game as the nation's 14th-ranked team, lost to both the Foresters and St. Norbert College to open its season. It was also the opening weekend for St. Mary's who fell at St. Norbert on Friday.

Senior forward Bryan O'Connor (Calgary, Alberta/Calgary Canucks) scored the first goal of Friday's game at 12:49 in the first period off assists from sophomore forward Cory Wilson (Calgary, Alberta/Calgary Royals) and freshman forward Jordan Kniaziew (Leamington, Ontario/Leamington Flyers). St. Thomas tied the game with 1:28 remaining before the first intermission.

The Foresters jumped out to a 3-1 lead with second period goals by sophomore forward Tyler Steen (Calgary, Alberta/Calgary Royals) and Kniaziew. Junior forward Robin Charest (Cabano, Quebec/ Hebron Academy), sophomore defenseman Bryan Lafevor (Ft. Wayne, IN/Chicago Freeze), freshman forward Scott Taje (Wetaskiwin, Alberta/Lloydminster Blazers), and Wilson each recorded an assist.

St. Thomas responded once again by scoring twice in the first 11 minutes of the final period. Forester freshman Cam Doull (Marwayne, Alberta/Lloydminster Blazers), however, scored his first career goal with 5:42 left on the clock. Lafevor and freshman forward Tyler Canal (Thunder Bay, Ontario/Stratford Cullitons) assisted on the game-winner.

After an early goal by St. Mary's on Saturday, junior forward Andrew Francone (Unionville, Ontario/Milton Merchants) scored to tie the score. Senior forward Adrian Wong (Richmond, British Columbia/Fernee Ghostwriters) and senior defenseman Chris Rook (Barrie, Ontario/Milton Merchants) assisted on Francone's first of the game and season.

The Cardinals went ahead by a goal just 21 seconds after the first intermission, but the Foresters responded with three goals - junior forward Ryan Scapinello's (Guelph, Ontario/Stratford Cullitons) first score of the year, another by Francone, and the first in the Lake Forest career of sophomore defenseman Bill Fetherston (Aurora, Ontario/Plattsburg Cardinals) - all in the second period. Steen, Charest, Wong, Kniaziew, Wilson, and Scapinello each had an assist.

Wilson extended the Forester lead to three goals with his first of the year at the 12:04 mark of the third off a pass from Taje. St. Mary's scored at 13:48 and then twice more with an extra attacker in the final minute-and-a-half to pull even with the home team and neither squad scored in the five-minute overtime.

Lake Forest, which has scored a dozen goals this season by 11 different players, will take on two more Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference schools next weekend (November 14-15). The Foresters will host Hamline University Friday afternoon at 4:00 and Bethel College Saturday night at 7:30.
