LAKE FOREST, Ill. - The Lake Forest College men’s hockey team lost a pair of close games over the weekend (October 26-27) in a home-and-home series with Milwaukee School of Engineering. Friday night’s season opener was played in Milwaukee and Saturday’s overtime contest occurred in Lake Forest.

Lake Forest scored the first two goals of Friday night’s game, starting with junior Mike Kneeland’s (Calgary, Alb./Calgary Royals) score just 19 seconds into the power play at the 2:24 mark of the opening period. He was assisted by freshman Peter Pfeffer (Farmington Hills, Mich./Walpole Stars) and junior Matt Oke (St. Lambert, Que./Nepean Raiders). Oke and freshman Ryan Kupperman (Canterbury, N.H./Green Mountain Glades) then assisted on Pfeffer’s first career goal 1:22 into the second stanza.

M.S.O.E. came back with three goals in the third period. The first was a power play score 16 seconds into the period and even-strength goals followed at 3:48 and 16:14.

Forester junior Scott Campbell (Bloomfield, Ont./Elmira Sugar Kings) stopped 36 of 39 (92.3 percent) shots on goal in the game.

The Foresters got on the scoreboard fist again on Saturday when junior Chris Wilson (Bloomfield Hills, Mich./Cornwall Colts) lit the lamp at the 14:15 mark of the opening period. His power play goal was assisted by Oke and Kneeland. The Raiders tied the score with 2:10 remaining in the period.

After a scoreless second period, the visitors grabbed the lead on a power play goal less than two minutes into the third. Kneeland then converted a power play opportunity for the second time in as many nights at 11:10. He was assisted by Pfeffer and sophomore Joe Hess (Ada, Mich./Quad City Express).

M.S.O.E. scored a shorthanded goal in overtime to come away with the victory.

Lake Forest will take on a pair of Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference teams next weekend (November 2-3). The Foresters will host Gustavus Adolphus College Friday night and St. Olaf College on Saturday. Both games will begin at 7:30 p.m.
