Foresters Split Weekend Home-and-Home Series with MSOE

Peter Morrison scored in each of his first two collegiate games.
LAKE FOREST, IL - The Lake Forest College men’s hockey team began the 2005-06 season with a weekend (October 28-29) split with the Milwaukee School of Engineering. The Foresters won 4-1 Friday night in Milwaukee but fell 3-2 at home the following evening.

All five goals in Friday’s contest were scored in the second period, the first four by Lake Forest. Junior Greg Ihnken (Peoria, IL/Chicago Freeze) started it off with an unassisted goal at 2:08 and freshman Peter Morrison (Roseville, MN/Roseville High School) lit the lamp off assists from junior Matt Forsyth (Calgary, AB/Calgary Royals) and freshman Mike Kneeland (Calgary, AB/Calgary Royals) just 56 seconds later. Sophomore Andrew Ferrier (Stratford, PEI/Truro Bearcats) assisted freshman Joe Papineau (Stoney Pointe, ON/Kitchener Dutchmen) at the 15:25 mark and junior Tyler Canal (Thunder Bay, ON/Stratford Cullitons), the team’s leading scorer each of the last two years, added a power play goal at 19:01 off an assist from senior Tyler Steen (Calgary, AB/Calgary Royals).

The Raiders scored their only goal of the game with just 45 seconds remaining in the second period. Forester freshman goaltender Brandon Kohuch (Winsdor, ON/Chatham Maroons) stopped 38 of 39 shots on goal in his collegiate debut to earn the victory.

Lake Forest surrendered Saturday’s first three goals, one in the opening period and two in the second. Kneeland finally put the home team on the scoreboard with a power play goal with 10:14 remaining in the contest. Morrison and fellow freshman Chris Wilson (Bloomfield Hills, MI/Cornwall Colts) were each credited with an assist. Sophomore Kevin Russette (Amerstburg, ON/Leamington Flyers) assisted Morrison with three-and-a-half minutes left to pull the Foresters to within one but they were unable to complete the comeback.

Freshman goaltender Scott Campbell (Bloomfield, ON/Elmira Sugar Kings) took the loss in his debut, despite turning away 28 shots on goal for a .903 save percentage.

Lake Forest will take to the road next weekend (November 4-5) to face off against a pair of Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference opponents. The Foresters will play at Augsburg College Friday night at 7:00 and at St. John’s University the following afternoon at 2:00.
