Forester Athletic Hall of Fame
Charter

The Lake Forest College Athletic Hall of Fame was established by the Lake Forest College Alumni Letterman's Club. Its purposes are twofold:

  1. To recognize and honor former students and teams of Lake Forest College who have made significant marks in athletic achievement and any others who by reason of their association with Lake Forest College have distinguished themselves as coaches, or as leaders in amateur or professional sports.
  2. To support and renew respect for the Lake Forest College athletic tradition by annual recognition of outstanding participants in that tradition.

I. Conditions for Eligibility: A candidate must:

  1. have been an alumnus of at least 10 years
  2. have earned a varsity letter at Lake Forest College or,
  3. have made an outstanding contribution as a player, or coach or athletic director, or as a participant otherwise in the filed of sports and athletics.

A team must have placed among the top four in the nation in a team sport (not cross country, swimming, handball).

II. Basis for Selection: (any of the following)

  1. Individual performance in athletics.
  2. Outstanding AAU, Olympic, amateur, or professional participation.
  3. Individual contribution to the world of sports other than competition.
  4. A distinguished record as a coach, athletic director, or participant following the completion of his/her career at Lake Forest.
  5. Alumni engagement.

III. Method of Nomination:

Nominations will be accepted by the Director of Athletics by February 1 annually via fax, email, the online nomination form, mail, or telephone. Once a person has been nominated, they will be researched by the Sports Information Director and added to the docket for consideration.

IV. Method of Selection:

The Hall of Fame Committee meets annually in the Spring to review nominations for induction into the Hall of Fame the following Fall. The committee, utilizing a grading evaluation system, will select 4-6 inductees. Nominees not recommended for induction in a given year will remain in the evaluation pool for future consideration.

V. The Hall of Fame Committee will be made up as follows:

  1. The Athletic Director
  2. At least one member of the Athletic Department Staff
  3. A minimum of 6 alumni, each representing a different era
  4. A representative of the Alumni Office

VI. Amendments and By-laws

Amendments may be made and By-laws enacted by a majority vote of the Hall of Fame Committee.
