Inducted 1976 Growing up in Chicago, Illinois, John attended St. Michael's High School prior to transferring to Waller High School where he played baseball and basketball. On the hardwood, he was the teams leading scorer, was voted All-City and set a city record when he scored 68 points in one game. After high school, he entered the Army and participated on the Ft. Sheridan post basketball team. Entering Lake Forest in the spring of 1947, he went on to earn one letter in baseball and four in basketball. During his basketball career, he was selected All-Conference as a freshman, led the team in scoring his sophomore year and was voted captain by his teammates his senior year. President of Phi Pi Epsilon, John was elected to Iron Key, was a member of the Intrafraternity Council, the Lettermen's Club and was sports editor for the yearbook. Graduating with a degree in psychology, he worked for Bell System and stayed on until his retirement in 1982. He also played A.A.U. basketball for many years and officiated at the high school, collegiate, and professional levels for 35 years. John served as president of both the Illinois Athletic Officials Service and the International Association of Basketball Officials.
