Inducted 1982 Growing up in Hebron, Illinois, John attended Hebron High School where he played baseball, basketball and football. He was honorable mention All-State in basketball and football. He entered Lake Forest College in 1957 and went on to earn three letters in baseball and two in basketball. As a sophomore, he was selected Most Valuable Player of the baseball team by his teammates. Remembered as an outstanding athlete, aggressive competitor, and a natural leader by his coaches and teammates alike, John is considered one of the outstanding catchers in the history of Forester baseball. In basketball, he was named Most Improved Player his sophomore year, and captain his senior year, he led the Forester cagers in free throw percentage in the same years. Graduating with a degree in Spanish, John pursued his Master's degree in Guidance Counseling at Loyola University in Chicago. Upon completion of his degree, he began a career as coach, counselor and mentor in the public school system. While at Morton East High School in Illinois, he led his freshmen baseball teams to three conference championships.
