Inducted 1990 Growing up in Libertyville, Illinois, John attended Libertyville High School. He earned varsity letters in football and was a member of an undefeated and unscored upon team. He entered Lake Forest in 1935 and went on to earn four letters in football and four in baseball. A member of the undefeated 1938 football team, he was also a lineman on, what is considered one of the greatest offensive and defensive lines in Forester football, called the "Seven Magnificent Oaks." For his accomplishments, he received Honorable Mention All-Conference. President of the Lettermen's Club, John was also a member of Digamma Alpha Upsilon. Graduating with a history and education degree, John served in the military before starting his teaching and coaching career. From 1946 to 1952 he served as Athletic Director and head football and basketball coach at Grayslake Community High School. He then became assistant football coach and head freshman-sophomore basketball coach at East Aurora High School. In 1953 he moved to Hinsdale Central High School, where he servd as head of the social studies department and coach of the football and basketball teams. He stayed at Hinsdale until his retirement in 1983.
