Lake Forest College Fall Sports Look to Continue Department's 2010 Success
Forester teams have combined for a .680 winning percentage since January 1

LAKE FOREST, Ill. - The Lake Forest College fall sports are set to begin a new decade and are looking to continue the winning ways started by the winter and spring squads once the calendar turned over on January 1.

Forester teams have posted a 90-41-5 record and .680 winning percentage since January 1. The women's hockey team became the College's 14th different sport in the last 13 years to claim a league championship and all 10 winter and spring teams placed among the top four in their respective conference tournament or meet. Lake Forest earned four conference coach of the year awards and five conference athlete of the year awards during that time.

Starting a new decade also means wrapping up an old one and the Foresters enjoyed a strong 2000s. Lake Forest teams combined for a .545 overall winning percentage and .582 mark in league play during the decade. The fall sports were especially successful, winning at a .562 clip overall and a .648 rate in Midwest Conference action.

Optimism abounds for the six teams that will report to campus next month. The football team will be the largest in school history with approximately 90 players on the roster, including more than 40 that are new to the program. The volleyball team will be more talented and experienced after last year's 13-member squad went 5-4 in league play with nine freshmen. Men's soccer was also extremely young in 2009, fielding just one senior and five juniors. The women's soccer team has gone 7-2-0 in conference games three years in a row and the top eight scorers from last year are all expected to return. The cross country and women's tennis teams will feature new head coaches in 2010. Sam Romanoski was hired to direct the runners and there is an ongoing coaching search for the tennis team that went 10-6-1 overall and 3-1 in MWC South Division play in 2009.

The women's tennis team will be the first to compete when the Foresters host Mount Mary College on Saturday, August 28. Lake Forest College will be the site of a triangular with the University of Chicago and Dominican University on Wednesday, September 1. The soccer teams will also open on September 1 with the men playing at North Central College and the women hosting Concordia University Chicago. Football will take on visiting Concordia University Chicago and the cross country teams will compete at St. Norbert College's Tom Barry Invitational on Saturday, September 4.
