Janine Vcelka Kennedy '90

Janine Vcelka grew up in Wadsworth , Illinois , and attended Zion-Benton Township High School , where she graduated in 1986 in the top 10 percent of her class. She was a team captain and an All-Lake County and All-North Suburban Conference volleyball player both her junior and senior seasons. She also played softball for three years.

Vcelka enrolled at Lake Forest College in the fall of 1986 and earned four varsity letters as a member of the Forester volleyball team. She was named Honorable Mention All-Midwest Athletic Conference for Women after her sophomore season and received First Team All-MACW honors each of the next two years. Vcelka ranked among Lake Forest 's leaders in both kills and blocks throughout her career and, as a senior, was named team captain and its Most Valuable Player. The Foresters were 72-55 overall and 12-5 in MACW North Division play during her four years. At the time of her induction the 1988 squad's 27 victories were still the highest single-season total in the program's history.
