Larry Niwa '72
Growing up in Chicago, Illinois, Larry attended St. Patrick High School.  He was a member of the football, golf, track and baseball teams, as well as being in the National Honor Society.

He entered Lake Forest in 1968 and went on to earn four letters in baseball, three in football and one in basketball.  His freshman baseball season he was awarded the "Big Stick" Award by Adirondack Industries for leading the nation in hitting in the NAIA with a .540 average.  He was also Most Valuable Player and honorable mention All America.  His sophomore year he was co-Most Valuable Player and his senior season he was elected captain and Most Valuable Player.  He was the teams leading hitter his senior year with .382 average. On the football field, Larry led the team in passing and was second in total offense his freshman year.  He was second on the team in passing his sophomore season.  Highlighting his football career was a 340 yard passing performance against Kalamazoo College.

Graduating with an economics degree, Larry started his career as a social science teacher and high school football coach at Hoffman Estates High School.  In 1978 he received his Master's degree in Guidance and Counseling from Northeastern Illinois University.  He served as an assistant varsity coach for five years and has since been a successful head coach for the freshmen football team.
