Inducted 2002 A native of Montclair, New Jersey, Lyle Shirley attended Montclair High School. In 1984, he led Montclair's Lacrosse team to the State Championship. He also played on the varsity ice hockey team and was a co-captain his senior year. At Lake Forest College, Shirley lettered four years in lacrosse. As a sophomore, he was named to the All-Great Lakes Lacrosse Conference Second Team and earned Honorable Mention from the Midwest Lacrosse Association. As a junior, he led the 1987 team with 23 goals. His 32 scores in 1988 set a new school record, as did the 73 he amassed during his career. He was the team's Most Valuable Player and was named to the All-Great Lakes Conference First Team, the Midwest Lacrosse Association Second Team, and an Honorable Mention All-American. Away from the lacrosse field, he served as vice president of his fraternity. Shirley continued his lacrosse career after graduating from Lake Forest. From 1991 to 1994, he played for the Detroit Turbos, a professional indoor lacrosse team and winner of the 1991 National Championship. He served as the team's assistant captain for the 1993 and 1994 seasons. Since the end of his playing days, Shirley continued his education at Columbia College Chicago, where he studied Photography and Digital Imaging.
