Taylor (Sheldon, IA/Sheldon) had 11 points, seven rebounds, and six
assists.
The score was 6-6 with 14 minutes remaining in the first half before the teams alternated runs of at least seven straight points throughout the rest of the period. Trinity started with nine in a row, the Foresters scored seven straight, the Tigers responded with 10, and Lake Forest closed out the half with a 7-0 run to cut Trinity's lead to 25-20 at intermission. The Tigers scored the second half's first five points but a 9-2 Forester run cut the margin to three (32-29) with 14 minutes remaining in the game. Lake Forest would get no closer, as Trinity quickly opened up a double-digit lead that reached 16 points (52-36) with just over five minutes to play. On Monday, freshman guard Greg Klos (Carol Stream, IL/Glenbard North) led the Foresters with 19 points and 6 rebounds. Senior Tim Andris (Port Washington, WI/Port Washington) connected on four of six three-point field goal attempts to account for his 12 points. Andris is shooting 55.6% (15/27) from long-range this season. Taylor scored 10 points and added four assists. Dan Tumis scored 14 to lead Southwestern and Justin Westmoreland and Mike Dunleavy each had 11. The Pirates shot 43.3% from the floor. Lake Forest shot 37.3% and was out-rebounded 46-38. A three-point field goal by Klos at the end of the first half ended a 12-0 run and cut Southwestern's lead to 38-22. The margin reached 22 points (46-24) early in the second half but the Foresters gradually got back into the game and trailed by just eight (62-54) with six minutes left. The visitors could get no closer and were outscored 20-12 the rest of the way. Lake Forest's next game will be at the University of Chicago on Saturday (January 4) at 3:00 p.m. The rest of the Foresters' games will be against Midwest Conference opponents, beginning with a game at Illinois College next Wednesday (January 8).
