FORESTERS JUMP OUT TO 2-0 START IN CONFERENCE PLAY
Two decisive wins at home to start the Midwest Conference season have propelled the Foresters to the top of the MWC. Lake Forest used a 101-85 win over Monmouth on Tuesday (Nov. 30) and a 71-54 win over Illinois College on Saturday (Dec. 4) to start the season 2-0. In both wins the Foresters jumped out to early leads and then held off late runs to secure the victories.
Against Monmouth, LF had five players score in double figures, led by freshman Lee Taylor's (Sheldon, IA/Sheldon H.S.) 23 points on 7 of 9 shooting from the floor. Junior J.R. Jurecko (Libertyville, IL/Libertyville H.S.) added 19 points and a team-high 12 rebounds, while Fred Bell (Mequon, WI/Homestead H.S.) chipped in 17 points. Both Taylor and Bell came off the bench. Freshman Eric Tolar (Maywood, IL/Proviso East H.S.) and sophomore Brian Bruha (Hillsboro, WI/Hillsboro H.S.) had 11 and 10 points, respectively. Bruha also had team-highs for assists (4) and steals (3).
On Saturday versus IC, the Foresters again benefited from a balanced scoring attack. Five players scored at least 9 points, led by Bell's 16 points. Bell converted 9 of 11 free throws. Other double digit scorers included Bruha (14), Jurecko (12), and Tolar (10). The Foresters jumped out to a 37-23 halftime lead by shooting 60.9% from the field in the first half, while IC shot just 28.6% in the first frame.
