Franklyn Beckford Named Forester Athlete of the Week
Senior finished his career with NCAA record-breaking performance

  

Franklyn Beckford made an NCAA record 26 field goals in a row over a three-game span.
LAKE FOREST, IL - Lake Forest College men’s basketball player Franklyn Beckford (Jacksonville, IL/Jacksonville) was named Forester Athlete of the Week on Thursday (February 23) for his performance in the team’s 110-93 victory over Grinnell College the previous Saturday (February 18).

Beckford, a senior forward, scored a season-high 33 points in the game and shot 14-for-15 from the field. He had connected on each of his previous 12 field goal attempts entering the contest and made his first 14 attempts on Saturday to set a new NCAA Division III record with 26 consecutive field goals made. The previous mark of 24 in a row set in 2000.

Beckford led the 2005-06 Foresters with 14.4 points and 7.7 rebounds per game. He completed his career ranked ninth in team history with 1,309 points and eighth with 632 rebounds. He also set school records for field goal percentage in a season (.674 this year) and career (.633).

The Forester Athlete of the Week is chosen by the Athletic Department on Thursdays. Beckford had also earned the award once during both his sophomore and junior seasons.
