Brad Wehner and Laird Walker Named All-MWC, Conger Coach of the Year
Foresters reached MWC Tournament final for first time in team history

Brad Wehner Laird Walker
LAKE FOREST, Ill. - The 2006-07 All-Midwest Conference Men’s Basketball Teams were released Wednesday (February 28) and Lake Forest’s Brad Wehner (Sheboygan, Wis./Sheboygan North) and Laird Walker (Chicago, Ill./Whitney M. Young Magnet) were Second Team selections. In addition, Forester head coach Chris Conger was named MWC Coach of the Year.

Wehner, a senior forward, team captain, and the only returning starter from the 2005-06 campaign, ranked second on the squad with 11.2 points per game and 65 assists on the season. He was Lake Forest’s most prolific shooter from beyond the arc with 48 three-pointers on the year. Wehner’s three-pointer with 15 seconds left provided the final points in the Foresters’ 80-79 victory over eventual league champion Grinnell College on January 6 and his basket with four seconds to play was the difference in Lake Forest’s 72-70 triumph at Carroll College on January 19.

Chris Conger
Walker, a junior forward, led the 2006-07 Foresters with 11.4 points and 7.4 rebounds per contest. He also blocked a team-high 23 shots on the year. Walker recorded six double-doubles on the season, including a 22-point, 10-rebound performance as Lake Forest prevailed 94-79 at Grinnell in the semifinals of the MWC Tournament.

Conger was named the league’s Coach of the Year for the third time in his career. He also earned the award following the 1997-98 and 1999-00 seasons. Conger led his Foresters to a 15-10 overall record and 10-6 mark in conference play after graduating six players that accounted for 70 percent of the team’s total time on the court the year before. Lake Forest’s appearance in this year’s MWC Tournament final was the first in team history.
